Commercial Roof Inspections in Columbia, PA for Hail Damage Insurance Claims After Storm on July 1, 2022
Commercial Roofing & Restoration
Intense storm fronts left residents sheltering in place as hail damaged roofs in Columbia, PA, and across Lancaster County on Friday, July 1st. Property owners require prompt commercial roof inspection services to assess the hail property damage and expedite insurance claims. RestoreMaster has emergency roof inspection and repair professionals in Lancaster County.
“(Marie) Dermo heard what she thought was thunder, and felt like an earthquake, as her house shook. The power went off briefly and then came back on. As the storm surrounded her home, she told her children to move away from windows and put them in the hallway,” according to Lancaster Online. “Firefighters responded to a call after a tree fell onto a home on Plymouth Road in Manor Township. That tree also brought down utility wires. There were other reports of tree branches down on roadways in Manor and Lancaster Townships, and traffic lights were out on Columbia Avenue in Lancaster Township after the storm.”
Commercial property owners and managers are urged to request a complimentary roof inspection to create a record of the wind and hail roof damage. Documentation can help speed insurance claims processes while emergency roof repair efforts are underway.
A local hailstorm damage map shows a pair of storm fronts over Lancaster County. One stretches from Hallam, across Columbia, and northeast to Lancaster Airport. The other impacted southern Lancaster County, running from Lake Clarke to Mechanics Grove. The light yellow areas indicate hail up to 1.25 inches around made landfall. The orange sections over Columbia, Marietta, Martic Forge, Buck, and Rawlinsville show hailstones 1.75 inches in diameter cracked windshields, shingles and left leaking roofs in the storm’s wake.

The National Weather Service high wind, tornado, and hail damage map highlights an extreme weather system across southern Pennsylvania and isolated storms in New York, Ohio, Indiana, South Dakota, and others. All told, 166 high wind incidents and 19 hailstone strikes were reported Friday, July 1st. Wide-reaching reports demonstrate the extent of the hail damage to roofing systems and other property in the Columbia area.

- Millersville: Trees and power lines were toppled in the Manor Ridge area.
- New Holland: Ice the size of a quarter pelted the Lancaster County community during the early afternoon. High winds pushed trees onto power lines.
- Reading: Ice the size of half-dollars struck rooftops and automobiles across Berks County.
- Spring Grove: A tree snapped and landed on a residential property on Stoverstown Road.
- Stewartstown: High winds dropped trees and power lines on Barnes Road in York County.
- Wakefield: High winds downed trees and hundreds were left without power across Lancaster County.
A commercial roof inspection following a high wind event or hailstorm provides an essential record. The process also identifies seemingly minor wind and hail roof damage that leads to water damage. RestoreMaster sent commercial roof inspection services and emergency repair crews to Fort Wayne, Indiana, after a hailstorm hit on June 13, 2022.
Tornadoes, hail, and even strong winds can cause severe wind damage to roofing systems.
Some older roofs can sustain damage from only 50 mph winds.
Several factors will determine the severity of roof damage: the height of the building and proximity to nearby structures, the quality of work by the original installers, the shape and angle of the roof, the age and type of roofing materials, and the impact from debris.
It’s important to get a thorough roof inspection & property damage assessment following severe weather like this so that you can determine whether you have roof damage from hail or high winds.
If roof leaks do occur, an experienced disaster roofing contractor can stop leaks with tarping or shrink wrapping, where affected areas (or the entire roof) are covered with a durable shrink-wrapped plastic membrane till permanent repairs can take place. That way you can prevent mold growth from water intrusion.
Rather than believing your roof is not damaged, if your property is anywhere in the area of the storm damage map, then you will want to get your roof inspected.
Some storm damage symptoms take time to appear.
And insurance companies can require you to get a claim in before their deadline.
