Contractor Responds to Hail & Wind Roof Damage in Salina, KS After September 17, 2022 Storm Pounds Buildings
Commercial Roofing & Restoration
Salina, KS, and surrounding cities and towns took a beating Saturday, Sept. 17th, as high winds and hailstones left commercial buildings in need of emergency roof repair. RestoreMaster dispatched field crews and property owners can contact the roof repair office in Wichita, Kansas, for commercial roof inspection services.
“Damaging severe thunderstorms Saturday evening dropped heavy rain and large hail, along with wind clocked at 78 miles hour in the Salina area. Street flooding, downed power lines, and debris on roads prompted Saline County Emergency Management to initially discourage travel,” KSAL reported. “At 8:39 PM a wind gust was clocked at 78 mph at the Salina Regional Airports as storms were moving through, and nearly an inch of rain fell within an hour. At 9:45 Evergy was reporting over 6,400 customers in Salina without power. Crews were working to restore power.”
Significant rainfall after high wind and hail roof damage occurs typically impacts rafters and load-bearing infrastructure. Moisture in attics, soffits, and behind walls allows hazardous mold to flourish. Commercial property owners in Saline and neighboring counties are urged to request a complimentary roof inspection to prevent otherwise avoidable remediation.
A local high wind and hailstorm damage map shows a convergence of storms on Salina. The yellow storm fronts point to hail up to 1.25 inches covering the region. The orange sections over Trenton, New Cambria, and I-70 point to ice up to 1.75 inches pounding roofs. The light gray areas indicate high winds, and the dark gray demonstrates hurricane-force gusts left a wake of destruction around Salina Regional Airport.

The importance of a commercial roof inspection cannot be understated after severe weather causes widespread property damage. Roof leaks may not become evident for months as water damage quietly impacts structural supports. RestoreMaster helped West Des Moines and Clive, Iowa, property owners recover from a hailstorm on August 19, 2022.
Severe storms, bringing hail, strong winds, or tornadoes can cause severe roof damage, by ripping off roofing systems.
Older roofs are susceptible to severe wind damage, by winds as low as 50 mph.
The severity of roof damage depends on several factors including: type and age of roofing materials, presence of flying debris, roof shape and angle, building height and proximity to adjacent structures and the quality of original roof installation.
Getting a roof inspection & property damage assessment after severe weather like this is important for determining whether you need to address roof damage from hail or high winds.
If roof leaks do occur, an experienced disaster roofing contractor can stop leaks with tarping or shrink wrapping, where affected areas (or the entire roof) are covered with a durable shrink-wrapped plastic membrane till permanent repairs can take place. That way you can prevent mold growth from water intrusion.
Get your roof inspected, even if you think there is no problem, especially if your property falls anywhere within the area of the hail and wind damage map.
