Hail Damage Insurance Claims Submitted Due To Large Hail Storm In Eastern Colorado, June 7, 2022
Commercial Roofing & Restoration
From bouldercast.com eastern Colorado had natural fireworks shows, when eight supercells passed over, dumping huge hail and mayhem throughout the area. Hail was up to baseball size with wind gusts of up to 75 mph. Hail that size, dropping at high speed and then propelled by high winds, can cause great damage to home and commercial building roofs.
RestoreMaster has residential and commercial roof inspectors in the area to provide free roof inspections to assess the damage caused by hail, high winds, and rain. This was one of the numerous storms that raged throughout the west on June 7th, like the wind and hail storm in Hastings, NE.
The local hail storm map indicates the variety of hail storms and hail sizes that moved through the east side of Colorado, outside Pueblo, and surrounding areas. It shows mostly orange, both light and dark, which indicates hail from half-dollar to tennis ball size. The areas of purple indicate hail higher than 2.5” in diameter.

RestoreMaster encourages residential and commercial property owners to be diligent about roof inspections, as hail and wind damage can allow water in, especially during wind-driven rain storms. The water along with the warmth from the sun shining on the roof, or warmth from indoor heating systems can create prime conditions for mold growth. Irradicating mold is a much more extensive process than simply repairing damage, not to mention the health issues it can cause.
Strong winds can rip open some roofing systems and cause severe roof wind damage.
Some older roofs can be damaged by winds as low as 50 miles per hour.
Several factors will determine the severity of roof damage: the height of the building and proximity to nearby structures, the quality of work by the original installers, the shape and angle of the roof, the age and type of roofing materials, and the impact from debris.
Following severe weather like this, it’s important to get a thorough roof inspection & property damage assessment to determine whether or not you have roof damage from hail or wind.
If roof leaks are a problem, they need to be addressed immediately. Experienced roofing contractors can either cover the affected area (or the entire roof) with a tarp or with a durable shrink wrap plastic membrane until long-term repairs can be made. Preventing water intrusion will help stop mold from growing.
Rather than believing your roof is not damaged, if your property is anywhere in the area of the storm damage map, then you will want to get your roof inspected.
Symptoms of storm damage problems do not always show up immediately.
And insurance company deadlines could hinder your ability to file a claim later.
