Roof Leak Repair Critical After Hail, Wind Gusts Inflict Property Damage on Chickasha, OK, Monday, May 2, 2022
Commercial Roofing & Restoration
Chickasha, Oklahoma, was again the target of hailstorms and high winds Monday, May 2nd, as ice, the size of baseballs, and wind gusts reaching 70 mph imposed their will. RestoreMaster alerted roof leak repair specialists to help secure wind and hail damage on roofs before another storm front arrives.
Reports indicate that Chickasha and the immediate area saw trained spotters witness 31 icefall instances, and the region has struggled under severe weather threats 52 times over the last 12 months. Doppler radar data indicates hail struck residential and business centers on five separate occasions in 2022.
A local hail damage map shows at least four major storms moving through the region on Monday, May 2nd. A cluster of overlapping fronts stretched from east of Apache to Tabler, as far south as Rush Springs and north above Minco. A lone hail system hovers above Slaughterville and Noble along Highway 77. The yellow sections show ice upwards of 1.25 inches pelting communities. The orange areas on the map denote hail up to 1.75 inches in diameter striking roofs and automobiles in towns including Ninnekah. The darker orange indicates ice as large as 2.5 inches inflicting hail property damage near Pocasset and Amber. The purple centered over northern Chickasha shows hail as large as a tennis ball pound roofs and automobiles.
Locals, news centers and storm chasers lost no time posting videos and photos from the storm:
Left work at 3:45 and made to Kingfisher just after the storm produced near Loyal, OK. Once I noticed it being undercut by the front, I dropped south to the Chickasha storm and followed it to I35 before I called it. Really thought it had a chance. Went on to produce by Seminole. pic.twitter.com/8RtT4wIJAy

The National Weather Service tornado, high wind, and hail damage map shows storm groupings across Oklahoma and Arkansas on Monday, May 2nd. National reporting accounted for 57 high wind incidents, eight confirmed tornados, and 51 hailstorm events across the country. Wide-ranging reports conclude the following cities and towns endured extensive hail damage to roofing systems.
- Amber: Ice as large as limes was reported hitting buildings early evening.
- Chickasha: Hailstones the size of baseballs battered roofs and exposed property around 7 pm as residents sheltered in place.
- Cyril: Ping pong ball-sized hail beat down on residential and commercial rooftops.
- Norman: Parts of Cleveland County experienced wind gusts over 60 mph with reports of roof sections being torn open.
- Pocasset: Hail as large as a hen egg repeatedly cracked shingles and windshields.
- Tuttle: Buildings along Highway 37 experienced a dusting of 1-inch ice pellets.
- Verden: Ice the size of quarters blanked the business district along Highway 62.
- Washington: Areas of McClain County sustained a brief blanketing of icefall at approximately 6:40 pm.
Oklahoma is in the midst of a peak hail season that is expected to persist deep into June. Property owners who require hail damage roof repair to secure leaks or replace torn sections are urged to reach out to a commercial roof repair contractor. Heavy rains can infiltrate commercial buildings and cause health hazards such as mold growth. RestoreMaster implemented emergency roof repair efforts in Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle after high winds and hail devastated businesses on Sunday, May 1, 2022.
Tornadoes, hail, and even strong winds can cause severe wind damage to roofing systems.
Older roofs are susceptible to severe wind damage, by winds as low as 50 mph.
Roof damage can be severe or mild, depending on various factors which include: materials used on the roof, impact of debris, building height and proximity to other buildings, age, angle and shape of the roof and type of roofing.
After a severe storm of hail or high winds, it is important to get your roof inspected, and have a property damage assessment report so that you can learn whether you have damage to your roofing system.
Circumstances do not always allow for immediate repair of roof leaks. In the meantime, an experienced disaster roofing contractor can cover the roof or affected area with a tarp or with a durable plastic shrink wrap material, until such a time when more permanent repairs can be made. We need to stop more moisture damage, so we can prevent mold growth.
If your property was anywhere within the storm damage map, it would be best to get your roof inspected, even if you think your roof was not damaged.
Some storm damage symptoms take time to appear.
And insurance companies can require you to get a claim in before their deadline.
