High winds and hailstorms ripped across southern Minnesota on Wednesday, May 11th, leaving a wake of roof damage, downed power lines, and snapped tree limbs, with New Prague and Montgomery sustaining heavy losses.

A centralized hailstorm damage map shows two thick cells covering New Prague and Montgomery on Wednesday, May 11th. The sections highlighted in yellow show ice up to 1.25 inches in diameter, pelting neighborhoods and business districts around Waterville, Wheatland, and St. Patrick. The orange swaths indicate ice stones as large as 2.5 inches in diameter pounded areas south of Montgomery and directly hit New Prague.
